Snowden Grove Park

A park where Southaven, MS comes together as a community

Built in 1999, Snowden Grove Park is the home to many community activities such as baseball, concerts, bowling, putt-putt golf, batting cages, festivals, and much more. Snowden Grove covers over 200 acres of land. It houses 17 baseball fields, and is the largest youth baseball complex in the United States. Each field has a covered and enclosed dugout for the ultimate convenience. The main concession area is made up of two 50 foot by 100 foot long pavilions with picnic tables. The most recent addition to the baseball sector of the park is the Southaven Field of Dreams, a mini complex for handicapped and mentally challenged children and adults. The Field of Dreams allows for everyone to safely participate in the great game of baseball.

The Snowden Grove Amphitheater was added to the park in 2006. This 27-foot high, 125,000 square foot amphitheater has hosted some of the biggest acts in the music industry such as ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alice in Chains, Trace Adkins, Kansas, Sugarland, and many more. The Snowden Grove Amphitheater can seat a crowd up to 11,000 people, not counting the lawn area for those who prefer comfort while viewing the shows.

Also, in Snowden Grove Park is the Strike Zone Bowling Lanes which was built in January of 2007. Community members gather at this bowling alley for a fun-filled family adventure that includes cosmic bowling, birthday parties, family days, league playing, and “Boogie Bowl,” the bowling alley’s unlimited Friday and Saturday night bowling. The Strike Zone prides themselves on being a wholesome family environment.

The Bancorp South Sports Center, also located in Snowden Grove, has many attractions for all ages. Community members gather to play a round of putt-putt golf on one of the two 18-hole miniature courses offered at the sports center. Visitors also have the option of playing indoor soccer or fast pitch softball. Also, inside the sports center are large baseball batting cages and batting tunnels for living pitching. The Bancorp South Sports Center offers many activities for community involvement.

In April, community members join to participate in Springfest and a barbecue cooking contest. This festival features carnival rides, concessions, and live musical entertainment. Springfest is a three-day festival that attracts over 50,000 visitors. The barbecue contest contributes to the massive number of visitors. Tourists come from all over the surrounding areas to taste some fine, Southern barbecue. Springfest brings the Southaven community together as well as opens the city to the warm Southaven hospitality.

Snowden Grove Park also houses many other community events. Fireworks are shot at the park for the Fourth of July. Weddings are held at the Snowden Grove House, a beautifully restored house that can hold up to 100 people. Finally, Snowden Grove hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt where the community comes together for egg hunting, face paintings, pictures with the Easter Bunny and much more.
